Trump claps back at ‘extremely unpatriotic’ Ilhan Omar after she blames him for death threats surge

President Trump said he has no regrets about a video he tweeted last week that criticizes Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., for comments she made about the Sept. 11 terror attacks.

“No, not at all,” Trump said to local television station KSTP in Minnesota on Monday. “Look, she’s been very disrespectful to this country. She’s been very disrespectful, frankly, to Israel. She is somebody that doesn’t really understand, I think life, real life, what it’s all about.”

“It’s unfortunate. She’s got a way about her that’s very, very bad I think for our country. I think she’s extremely unpatriotic and extremely disrespectful to our country,” he added.

During an interview with local TV station @KSTP in Minnesota, @realDonaldTrump says he does not regret his tweet about @IlhanMN.

Trump tweeted Friday a jarring video which was a splicing of Omar’s remarks on the Sept. 11 attacks with footage of the World Trade Center’s twin towers and the Pentagon burning.

During a speech to the Council of American-Islamic Relations last month, Omar said, “some people did something” when discussing the events of Sept. 11, 2001.

Omar was swiftly criticized by some Republicans and the media for downplaying the tragedy. The New York Post responded to Omar’s comment with a front page that said “Here’s your something” posted over a picture of the second jet crashing into the World Trade Center.

Omar responded to the criticism late Sunday, blaming Trump’s tweet for a spike in death threats. “Since the President’s tweet Friday evening, I have experienced an increase in direct threats on my life — many directly referencing or replying to the President’s video,” Omar said in a statement.

Omar has also been criticized by both Republicans and members of her own party for comments she has made in the last few months that critics say were anti-Semitic.
